Is it permissible to greet someone who is reading the Qur’an ?

There is an opinion according to which if we come across someone reading the Qur’an, we must not greet the latter. There is no evidence to back this opinion and it goes against the way of the prophet and his companions.

Reported by Uqbaa ibn Aamir:

[We were sitting in the Masjid and we were reading the Qur-aan. The messenger of Allah entered, he greeted us, and we greeted him back.]

(AHMAD 16721, SS.3285)

After all, if it is permissible to greet someone who is praying, it must also be permissible to greet someone who is reading the Qur-aan.

Sins remove blessings from Knowledge

Conditions for Tawbah Nasouh

Tawbah Nasouh after sinning

Allaah (66:8):

[O ye who believe! Turn unto Allah in sincere repentance! It may be that your Lord will remit from you your evil deeds and bring you into Gardens underneath which rivers flow.]

Based on this verse we understand that it is compulsory to perform Tawbah Nasouh after each and every sin that we happen to commit. Tawbah Nasouh is a repentance which satisfies the following conditions:

  •         Repent sincerely for the sake of Allah
  •         Immediately stop committing the sin in question.
  •         Regretting the sin committed.
  •         Determined not to commit the same sin again.

Learning about Allaah will shape your character

The behaviour of a person on Earth is relative to his faith (imaan) in Allaah. When somebody has accepted the Shahadah and he studies the names of Allaah (Asma ul Husna) and His attributes (Swifaatullah), this knowledge drives him to develop good and pleasant qualities because each name of Allaah has a particular effect on the heart and on the behaviour (character) of the person. For example, when we learn that Allah is Al-Jameel (beautiful), we will be motivated/encouraged to keep ourselves smart and neat.

The Prophet said:

[Allaah is beautiful and loves beauty.]

(MUSLIM 131)

The Prophet said:

[Allaah is Witr (one) and He loves Witr. So, Oh People of Qur’aan, offer the Witr prayer!]

(TIRMIZI 455, IBN MAAJAH 1224)

Likewise:

  • Allaah is merciful (Ar-Rahman) and loves those who show mercy to others.
  • Allaah is generous and He loves those who are generous.
  • Allaah is kind and He loves those who are kind-hearted, non-violent and not harsh towards others..
  • Allaah has knowledge and loves those who have/increase their knowledge.
  • Allaah is the forgiver and loves those who forgive.
  • Allaah is shy and loves those who are shy.
  • Allaah is truthful and loves those who speak but truthful.
  • Allaah hides the sins of His slaves and loves those who hide the sins of others.
  • Allaah is All-just and like those who deal with justice.

Ibnul Qayyim (751 H) said:

[Each and every name among Allah’s name, holds a specific Ibadah for Him ( Allah), with respect to our knowledge and state.]

why the hypocrites do not acquire comprehension of the Religion – Ibnul Qayyim

The prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

Two characteristics are not found together in a hypocrite: good manners and understanding of the Religion.

(TIRMIZI 2900)

Ibnul Qayyim said:

This is a (prophetic) evidence that the one who possesses good manners and understanding of the Religion is a Believer.

(MIFTAAH DAAR-IS-SA’AADAH)

Ibn Qayyim said:

[ Knowledge from Imaan is like the soul from the body. The Tree of Imaan grows but only on a trunk of science and knowledge. ]

(MIFTAAH DAAR-IS-SA’AADAH)

This is the reason why the hypocrites do not acquire comprehension of the Religion.

Sisters, avoid perfumes outside your house !

A woman is allowed to wear perfume within her house. But when she intends to go out, she is required to wash off the perfume so as not to attract men on the road.

The prophet said:

Any woman who perfumes herself and then passes by a group of men so that they can smell her scent, is a Zaaniyah (fornicator).”

(AHMAD 18879)

The prophet said:

[Any woman who perfumes herself and then heads out to the Masjid so that people can smell her scent, none of her swalaat is accepted until she takes a bath just like she would for Janaabah.]

Don’t make such du’aa “Oh Allaah punish me in this world instead of punishing me in the hereafter”

Allaah is the one who has much pity and is ready to forgive us for all our sins. When Allaah forgives someone, there is nothing He loses. Similarly, when Allaah rewards someone for a good deed, there is nothing He loses. So, we must always ask Allah for the good in this world (Dunyaa) and in the hereafter (Aakhirat), and we should not think that, if Allaah has forgiven us, there is still the possibility that He gets angry at us again for that same sin.

Reported by Anas :

[The messenger of Allaah visited someone among the muslims, who was (completely) weakened, and became (slim) like a small bird.

The messenger of Allaah asked him:

‘Were you doing asking any invocation, or asking (Allaah) something?’

The person answered:

‘Yes, I was saying: Oh Allaah, whatever you have to punish me in the hereafter (Aakhirat), punish me for it in this world (Dunyaa).’

So, the Messenger of Allah said:

‘Allaah is perfect (Sub-haanallaah)! You will not be able to bear this. Why didn’t you say: Oh Allaah, give us what is  good in this world (Dunyaa), and what is good in the hereafter (Aakhirat) and protect us from the punishment of the fire (of Hell)?’

Then the messenger of Allaah made invocations for him and Allaah cured him.]

Lying about dreams is considered as a major sin !

Amongst the major sins is the act of lying by a person concerning his dreams, i.e. the person pretends that he/she has dreamt about something while in truth, he/she dreamt about something else. That is because in Islaam, lying disguised under any form is impermissible. One who revealed that he dreamt about something when in reality, he dreamt about something else did nothing but spoke an immense lie.
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said:

[Amongst the greatest lies is the statement of a person declaring that his/her eyes saw something (in his/her dreams) which (in truth) he/she did not see.]

(BUKHARI 7043 , S.S 3063)

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said:

[He, who pretends that he dreamt about something which in fact he did not dream about, (as punishment) Allaah will order him to tie a knot with two grains of barley and he will not be able to do so.]

Explanation of the hadith ‘Singing on Eid day’ – Imam An Nawawi

Question:

Is it not true that at the time of the prophet ﷺ, the Swahaabah used to sing on the occasion of ‘Eid or Waliimah?

Answer:

If singing has been made permissible during these two specific occasions, it does not mean that singing is permissible in the Deen of Allaah. Furthermore, it was not the men who used to sing, but rather it was the young girls, who were not singers by profession.

Narrated Aisha:

[ Abu Bakr came to my house while two small Answaari girls were singing beside me the stories of the Answaar concerning the Day of Bu’aath. And they were not singers. Abu Bakr said protestingly, “Musical instruments of Satan in the house of Allaah’s Messenger (ﷺ) !” It happened on the `Eid day and Allaah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “O Abu Bakr! There is an `Eid for every nation and this is our `Eid.” ]

(BUKHARI 952)

An-Nawawi:

[ Al-Qaadwi said: Both of them sang poems of war and boastfulness to get courage, victory and have an upper hand (over the adversaries).

This does not expose young girls to evils and they raising their voices is not included in the category about which there is a difference of opinion. It is just that they raised their voices.

This is why Aisha said: “they were not singers”, which indicates that those two girls were not like singers, who sing with excitement, passion, indecency, boasting beauty, which incites passion and pretentiousness, as it is said: “Singing involves Zinaa”.

Also, those two girls were not among those who were famous for their beautiful singing which constitutes of elongation and fragmentation of the voice and actions which reanimates one.

Also, those two girls neither sang as a profession nor used it as a means to acquire money.

The Arabs call reciting poetry in a high voice (Inshaad) singing, but it is not included in the singing about which there is a difference of opinion. It is in fact permissible. ]

Based on the above, one can understand that:

Those two girls were not in fact singing, they were only reciting poems

They did not sing like singers do

They were not known for their beautiful singing

They did not do that as a profession.

Is Stretching one’s legs towards Qiblah considered as a lack of respect ? Shaykh Abdul Muhsin Al-Abbaad

It is permissible to sleep or rest in a position where our legs face the Qiblah. That is because there is no texts in Qur’aan/hadiith that prohibits such act.

Sheikh Abdul Muhsin Al-Abbaad:

Stretching one’s legs towards the Qiblah is not considered as a lack of respect for the symbols of Allaah. It is known that whoever rests on his back or he is sick, he must stretch his legs towards the Qiblah. If he is praying while resting on his back, he will be in that position (the legs towards the Qiblah) and we dont say that this is a lack of respect.
